Work boots and safety shoes should fit well when you buy them. Your toes shouldn't be able to wiggle and not touch the toe cap. Your heel should sit snuggly but not too tight. Because of the safety features (toe and plate) built into safety shoes and work boots, they don't loosen up like regular shoes or boots might. We recommend wearing them for a few hours at home before wearing them for a full day of work. After all, you wouldn't wear brand new shoes to go on an 8-hour hike!
Yes they are steel toe CSA certified safety work boots.
Yes, these safety shoes do provide moderate ankle support. If you are looking for a more serious ankle support, check out our 6" or 8" work boots.
Timberland replaced the "Ratchet" with the "Switchback LT". Nearly identical features and price. The difference in quality is VERY noticeable.
I've had 4 pairs of Ratchets from 2012-2025 and I abused them in every environment available. Auto shop and all the fluids that come with that, manufacturing plants, off-roading, camping, etc. I even wore them every day going to uni and to work. They were comfier than sneakers! Never treated or cleaned them. They just took the abuse and never cracked. I'd only move on to the next pair when I wore through the treads.
The Switchback LTs on the other hand, do not hold up. In 2 months one of the fabric lace loops came unattached (they were leather tabs on the Ratchets), and I had a twig stab into the side of the sole and come for a ride. The sole is also detaching at the heel on one boot. On a user preference note, they are not nearly as comfortable as the Ratchets were.
Timberland, what happened? Just kill off the Ratchet to replace it with garbage?
Awesome and comfy
Nice shoes.. comfortable as well
Good shoes but it’s not water proof
My son has a hard time finding anything to fit (15Wide) but these boots are perfect.
